Hybrid Administrative Assistant and Government Relations Associate

TL/DR

Lot Sixteen is a bipartisan lobbying and communications firm looking for a hybrid Administrative Assistant and Government Relations Associate to join our team and advocate for our clients’ interests.

The Firm

Lot Sixteen is looking for a hybrid Administrative Assistant and Government Affairs Associate to join our growing team of exceptional government relations professionals. In this role, ownership of, and accountability for, planning and executing work across a wide variety of functions will be required.

We are a pro-active bunch. We translate our words into actions. We insist on knowing what we are talking about. We view the identification of a problem or task as only the first of many steps required to get results. We prioritize solutions, develop detailed work plans, secure approval to execute those plans and get to work on implementation. We worry, so clients don’t have to. And we want this same approach from the person selected for this role.

We are focused on building an agency that feels like home, a team of friends who support each other as much as they challenge each other, and a client base whose trust and confidence in us is earned every day. At Lot Sixteen, we prioritize quality, we value smart thinking, and strive for a more diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment. Accordingly, we aim to provide or exceed all the standard work perks and expectations, including:

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous benefits, including:
    • Health and Dental Plan
    • Retirement Plan with company matching
    • Commuter Benefits
  • All-you-can-eat snacks and all-you-can-drink coffee
  • Colleagues who welcome your real family & friends and recognize that balancing both is an essential ingredient to happiness
  • Downtown Washington, D.C. office location on McPherson Square, near 15th & K St. NW

The Role (full-time)

Lot Sixteen is seeking a hybrid Administrative Assistant and Government Relations Associate to join their growing team. This individual will directly support our Executive Vice President and General Counsel as an Administrative Assistant while also contributing to the government relations portfolio managed by the Executive Vice President across a variety of clients. The hybrid role at Lot Sixteen will consist of a diverse set of responsibilities, including:

  • Monitor a senior team member’s email and manage up to ensure nothing is overlooked;
  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate appointments for senior team member;
  • Prepare meeting notes for internal and client use;
  • Assist with compliance tracking and reporting under federal and state lobbying laws;
  • Maintain and update various databases for legislators, clients, and government agencies;
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and conduct expense reporting;
  • Respond to email inquiries and act as a liaison between clients and senior team member;
  • Assist with event planning and logistics for fundraisers, advocacy days, and stakeholder meetings;
  • Manage office supplies, mail distribution, and general administrative tasks to support daily operations.
  • Cover congressional hearings, summarizing relevant discussions and incorporating analysis into high-quality, client-facing communications;
  • Conduct policy-oriented research and presenting findings to clients;
  • Research the policy positions and background of federal lawmakers and their staff to arm clients with the most relevant prep materials ahead of engagements;
  • Draft and edit written content and materials, including agendas and deliverables to aid in the organization of client calls;
  • Attend client meetings and actively take notes to be distributed to team members after meetings;
  • Utilize, create and/or update various databases; and
  • Monitor congressional floor, committee and individual member office activities.

The Candidate

Did we just become best friends? Well... yeah... if you’re someone who:

  • Knows how to balance competing demands with composure, smarts and confidence
  • Enjoys writing, and is good at it (presentations, memos, speeches and zinger txt msgs)
  • Feels an obligation to keep people in the loop, rather than cut them out of it
  • Prides yourself in looking around corners, evaluating scenarios and being prepared
  • Finds fulfillment in developing and implementing solutions to problems that feel unsolvable
  • Likes to lend a hand when you see someone who needs help
  • Cares deeply about your professional relationships and works hard to strengthen them
  • Finishes what you start, without anyone checking up on you

You are most likely to thrive in this role if you have a minimum of  1 - 2 years of professional work experience. We care less about where or how long you went to school than we do about how eager you are to continue learning. Experience in public service – on the Hill, in the military, at an agency or otherwise – would be outstanding. So would deep knowledge of, and curiosity about, the business implications of changes to public policy. Equally important: a willingness to admit what you don’t know and go find the answers. A background in the energy and/or natural resources industries is a plus, but not necessary; likewise if you are a current or former Staff Assistant or Legislative Correspondent on the Hill.

The ideal candidate for this role**:

  • Likes meeting new people
  • Has an affinity for storytelling
  • Prefers engaging in the policymaking process to opining on it
  • Has cultivated a real expertise on a particular set of issues
  • Builds coalitions of similarly situated people and organizations
  • Seeks to understand U.S. federal policy development and implementation processes
  • Prioritizes well in a fast-paced, demanding environment

Compensation, Benefits and Additional Details:
The starting salary for this full-time, regular, exempt position is $60,000 per year. Full-time staff are also eligible for an annual bonus of up to 15% of their annual salary. Lot Sixteen offers generous company benefits, including 15 days of PTO per year; 11 paid holidays per year, plus our office is closed for the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day; 100% employer-paid medical and dental insurance, plus coverage for dependents; a 401(k) match, and Metro or parking benefits.

Lot Sixteen operates with a hybrid office environment. Staff is expected to work from the office approximately three days per week, with the option to work remotely the other days. However, we encourage new and junior staff to take advantage of working in-person at the office in order to maximize learning opportunities and hands-on professional development.
